Make Your Own
Rubber Stamp
Rubber stamp is an indispensable school and office supply that
could double up as a good pastime to while away the time. Of
course, given the myriad of hand-operated and automatic rubber
stamping machines that are available today, personal rubber
stamps are often obscured, but they are still useful and quite
enjoyable to make. Why not rev up your imagination and try to
make your own rubber stamp to fully understand what I mean.
To make your own rubber stamp, you will need a lead #2 pencil,
an eraser, a carving tool, a rounded-tip stick, an ink-based
pen, and tracing paper. Before you start, you must decide on the
pattern or design for your rubber stamp. Draw the pattern first
as a white and black figure with bold and wide lines, then
transfer the pattern on top of the tracing paper using the lead
pencil, emphasizing the black-shaded areas heavily so that you
can leave on the paper a shiny silhouette of the lead. Next, put
the paper face-down atop the eraser, and then gently rub the
pattern onto it with the round-tip stick. This process will
leave a reversed copy of the original image of the pattern on
top of the eraser. You can then carve out the inked section of
the eraser using a sewing or stitching needle or Speedball
cutter. Finally, test your creation by pressing the finished
product on to the ink pad and stamp it on a paper.
Now you learn a new craft, and a helpful one at that. To finally
arrive at creating the perfect one, continue to make your own
rubber stamp every time you needed one. As the famous saying
goes, practice makes perfect.
