Stamp Collecting
Stamp collecting is among the most popular hobbies in the world.
This renowned pastime can be described as the accumulation of
postage stamps and other related materials, like covers or
envelopes that contain stamps. Many stamp enthusiasts all over
the globe find this hobby very fulfilling, while others even
consider it as a hobby worth of a great investment. In fact, a
large collection of valuable stamps is considered a fine
tangible investment that is easy to preserve.
Stamp collecting is basically performed by two people: the
philatelist and the stamp collector. Both collector and
philatelist see stamp collecting as a formidable alternative to
other collectible endowments and arts. However, a philatelist is
not the same as a stamp collector. The former is a person who
studies stamps, while the latter merely collects stamps, even
without closely studying what they collect. But when a collector
intends to accumulate stamps in a comprehensive or large
collection, then philatelic knowledge is required to verify the
value in such field of interest.
In the past, stamp collecting is perceived to be a hobby that
requires extra effort, since people really have to scour places
to gather stamps. Today, with e-mail and other electronic means
of communication at the disposal of millions, stamp enthusiasts
could continue searching and gathering stamps by just being
confined to their homes. They simply have to locate their
favorite stamp websites on the Internet and fill out an order
form so that the stamp/s of their choice could be conveniently
and easily delivered to them.
